Council says no to extra car boot sale dates at Wigginton
A request to increase the number of car boot sales held at Home Farm in Corban Lane, Wigginton, has been turned down by City of York Council.
Organisers, Ken and Adele Roberts, had wanted to increase the number of boot sales held on their farm from 14 to 20 a year, but council officials opposed the move on the grounds that it would lead to traffic problems in the area.
When the proposal was put to the vote at the startof June, the planning committee was split down the middle, with seven councilors voting to allow more car boot sales and seven voting against - includingthe committee chairman who had the casting vote.
The Roberts have held car boot sales at Home Farm in Wigginton for 16 years and regularly attract 200 stallholders and 2,000 buyers.
